Using VA Claim Buster
Is VACB free, and will it file my claim?
The educational pages and website tools are free to use. VACB explains the system; it is not a claims-filing service and does not submit or manage your claim.
Education, planning tools, and plain-English guidance. Not legal or medical advice.
Is this the VA or an accredited representative?
VACB is not affiliated with the VA. Buster is not a lawyer, clinician, accredited representative, or VSO. Using this site does not create a representation relationship, and there are no guaranteed outcomes.
Where should I start, and what is RECON?
Alpha Point helps you choose a starting route. Intel Center holds the briefings. Loadout holds the tools. RECON is the site search; the top-left VACB logo takes you home.
Why does the site ask for my military branch?
Branch selection personalizes the site experience. Pick an emblem or choose “Read first — choose later.” You can switch branches in the branch rail. This preference is stored on your device; it is not a claims intake form.
Does the VA Math Buster app cost anything?
The VA Math Buster app is currently free. In-app purchases are planned for future features.
The website calculator is an educational estimate, not an official VA determination.
Should I send you my records or personal identifiers?
No. Do not send SSNs, VA file numbers, or medical records. Use the Corrections Desk for site issues, not private claim files. Read the Privacy Policy before contacting us.
Can I make the text easier to read?
Use “Larger text” in the footer or your browser's zoom. The existing Display toggle lets you choose Static or Full presentation. These preferences do not require an account.
VA claims basics
How do I start a disability claim?
Review eligibility, identify the conditions you are claiming, and gather supporting evidence. VA accepts claims online and through other filing methods, including help from an accredited representative.
What kinds of evidence can support a claim?
Depending on the claim, evidence may include service records, medical records, and statements from people who know relevant facts. What is needed depends on the issue; a document's existence does not guarantee an award.

What is an Intent to File?
An Intent to File can preserve a potential filing date while you prepare a qualifying claim. It is not a completed claim or a promised effective date. Filing method and timing matter.

Why don't my disability percentages simply add up?
The calculator uses the combined-rating method rather than simple addition. Read the VA Math explanation and official rule links. A combined-rating estimate is not a monthly-payment or benefit-entitlement decision.
Who can help me with my individual claim?
Use VA's directory to find an accredited representative. Bring case-specific questions to a qualified representative rather than sending private records to VACB.
